The Warren 28th August 2026 September 23, 2026 – Posted in: Results-2026
Let’s start with the weather! The forecast at the start of the week suggested thunder & showers all day. But yet again we were blessed with a lovely sunny, dry day!
The course was difficult as expected due to the drought, but even so, it was in quite poor condition, and the greens were far too fluffy and slow. Again, maybe due to the weather with the greenkeepers wanting to protect the greens but it made for some frustrating putting!
Results
The conditions played their part, and this was not helped by a greater number than usual of people carrying injuries!. I can’t remember so many pills being passed round before the start. I was like a busy night in Pacha!
The average score was on the low side at 27 points
The Winner – Danny with 36 points
Runner-Up – Lester with 34 points
Wes came in 3rd with 33 points, followed by 4 players on 30 points
Longest Drive was won by ……………Richie Smith! My second shot just about went past his drive! I then annoyed him by matching his 4 to win the hole with my extra shot! There really is no justice in this game (Richie’s words, not mine!)
Nearest the Pin was won by Lester on the 5th
Par 3 King was also Lenny with 9 points
The Team Competition was won by the team of Andy, Wes and Lester. They pulled Pants’ card for their 4th player, and he helped them to a total of 85. Their pre-Pants total was 82, and that would have won anyway! However, having already elected to take a 4th player’s card they did the decent thing and shared the prize money with Pants. I should add that this was done grudgingly after taking advice from our legal counsel (ironically also Pants!) and the Ethics committee (me!). The other team scores were 81, 80, 75 & 72
Player of The Year
Lester’s 34 points now moves him above Dave H and is now top of the leaderboard. Dave H remains in 2nd place. Neither Matt nor Martin played but they remain in joint 3rd on 100 points
Danny has now recorded his 3rd round and his 98 points puts him level with Wes in 5th
With 2 rounds to play the competition is still very much alive, with a host of players who could move to top spot with a 36 pointer
Next Golf Day
Our next golf day is on Friday 18th September at Brentwood Golf Club. As this is only 3 weeks away, I will send an email out next week with the details and to get the numbers
Handicap system – a reminder
Almost everyone is now using one of the handicap system and this is great news as it will eventually settle out and be the fairest way.
Could I also please ask that when you come to a golf day that you do know you Index as it is important that we are all playing by the same rules.
