I hope you enjoyed the trip to Celtic Manor at the weekend.

It was a shame the weather had been so bad and the course was so wet. It made a very hard course very much harder! I will definitely be heading back there at some point to see what it is like in nicer conditions

However, I thoroughly enjoyed playing all 3 courses, although not so much the walking to and from the buggy paths!!

Results

We played our usual competition on the Saturday, on the Roman Roads course

Although the rain kept away, the conditions were again very testing, with pick & place used throughout, and all bunkers were deemed GUR
Even so, it was tough going with no ball roll on the fairways whatsoever

The winner was Gavin who scored a very tidy 35 points, beating debutant Dave Scott on countback. Well done Gavin and well played too Dave
Gavin will of course by cut by 10% and Dave by 5%

Tony came in 3rd with 34 points but he did win the Nearest to the Pin in Regulation shot on the 18th, which was not easy given the conditions

Nearest the Pin was won by Lenny with an excellent shot which ended just 9 inches from the pin. I am pleased to report that he got the birdie put

The Par 3 king was Dave Hilliard with 11 points, beating Peter on countback

The Team event was won by the 3 ball of Peter, Darren and Alan. They benefitted by drawing Gavin’s card as their mystery 4th player! How often does that happen?

Player of The Year

We now have 2 rounds and so after our next golf day we will begin to see the early season pace-setters

Next Golf Day

Our next Golf Day will be on Friday 25th May at The Warren. I will send out an email closer to the date but for now please keep a note of the date in your diaries

Plans for Next Year

The plan for next year will be a similar trip but to Le Touquet, in France. However, I will go for late May or even June to give us a better chance of nice weather. I will get onto this shortly as Le Touquet is always extremely popular and so the courses and hotels get booked up early!
